Likely one of the most alluring parts of Steam is its implementation of regional pricing (not exclusive to this launcher) and its sales. But that doesn't mean that a bit of friendly competition won't make it soar far and beyond what it has in the last 20 years of service.
With user-friendly interfaces, libraries, customisation, and plenty of games to pick from, it feels like Steam is a behemoth that can't be stopped. Steam's age and expertise in the field give it a competitive advantage over all of the other launchers we will be talking about. I'm not going to pretend to be unbiased (again) when it comes to PC launchers because the one true answer for all of this is Steam. Steam has been around for 20 years this September, and that means that it's the oldest launcher by a landslide. Of course, it would be an insult to our Overlord Gaben (our nickname for Steam's lead developer and co-founder) if we didn't start with the most prominent - and successful - launcher: Steam.
